Attention LOCAL Drivers:

The Referee or Templates will not be used at SAS but the rules of height, width and ext must be met.

There is no date requirements on seat belts.  They must be replaced if show signs of weakness, broke thread or ext. 

Safety requirements are high with SAS!  Help us make it safer.

 

Coyote

Must be American made Front Wheel Drive (Chrysler, Gm, Ford, etc.) and completely stock

No turbo or supercharged cars allowed.

No NOS or other performance enhancing devices allowed.

All ECM's (computers), including chips, MUST be OEM Stock for year, make and model of car. Absolutely NO aftermarket performance chips!

Door hinges, locks, and side impact bar must remain in door.

Doors must be securely fastened shut.

Must remove all glass

 If using glass windshield must wear goggles or face shield

 May use screen or lexan.

May remove back seat, carpet, headliner, and trim panels

Tires: 225/65/15 Maximum tire size. 

 Front wheel drive rims only.  Max 6” width.

Stock suspension only.  No modifications

May lean front tires in for wear. Max 3” at rim. 

May run Max 2”spacer on right side to prevent tire scrub only.

All glass removed except for windshield

4 pt Roll Cage Mandatory

Seat: Bench, Bucket, or Racing Seat

Fuel Cell or Gas Tank: Fuel Cell must be centered in rear of the car no lower than the frame

Road Runner

  All cars subject to general rules.

1972 or newer model car.  No high performance Engines                                            108 to 111 ¾ 305 Max 112 or greater 350 Chevy, 351 Ford, 360 Chrys Max.

Maximum allowable compression is 180 pounds for 305, and 165 pounts for 350. Heads must match motor.

Oil pan must have 1" inspection plug in line with crankshaft casting number.

Melling CCS-2 is the only cam legal for gm cars available at speedway.

Minimum 20 inches of vacuum at 1000 rpms or subject to tear down.

 (No Hydraulic rollers) No Rhodes or anti-pump up

No fuel injection heads unless running factory fuel injection.

Transmission – Automatic only. No power glides

Frame – 108” Wheelbase or longer

Must have 4 point cage connected to frame. May have door bars.

Door hinges, locks, and side impact bar must remain in door. Doors must be securely fastened shut.

Stock suspension only.  No modifications

No racing shocks (If it can be identified as a racing shock then it is illegal)

Rearends & Gears stock only, No limited slip or locked. Max 3.25

No Gutting. May remove all A/C components. Stock dash, no gutting.

Pulleys stock only

Battery must be tied down and covered.

Must remove all glass. If using glass windshield must wear goggles or face shield. May use screen or lexan.

May remove back seat, carpet, headliner, and trim panels.

May use bucket or bench seat. Racing seat optional. 5 point seat belt required. 

Stock gas tanks or fuel cells Fuel cells must be centered between frame rails.

Bottom of cell no lower than bottom of frame.

Only 205-235, 70 or 75 DOT street tires. 14" or 15". No Michelin tires. No speed rated tire higher than T.

Both front tires may be leaned at top 3 inches maximum. (Measured on the rim)!

Stock or stock type rims only. May run 3” max. Offset on right side. 8” maximum width.

White spoke or chrome ok. No mismatched rim sizes.

Driver or car may move run higher class two times. 3rd time they must remain in higher class.

No antifreeze allowed.  $50.00 Fine

 

Street Stock

 All cars subject to general rules.

 Anything not specified in the rules must be stock, in original position from the original manufacturer unless other stipulated.

Weight

   Left side 53% maximum for cars. Must weigh 3200 lbs. minimum.

  Subject to change if needed.

      Bodies

            Complete body must remain stock. (Bumper to Bumper)

            No sectioning, chopping, channeling, hulling, or cutting of any kind.

            May gut hood, roof, and truck lid

            May remove front inner fender wells.

            All body parts must maintain 6” ground clearance.

            May run aftermarket nose piece.  Must match car and be approved by tech.

            Must have windshield (glass or lexan) or screen (no plexiglass) If using glass                                                    

         Windshield must wear goggles or face shield.

            Back and side windows optional.  (Nothing in door openings)

            Must remove stock hood and trunk latches and replace with pins.

            May remove hinges.

            May extend either steering wheel or pedals, but not both.

            Racing seats only.

            Must cover all holes in front and rear firewall and floorboard.

            Full front and rear firewall and shelf must remain in car.

            Body must mount on stock rubber mounts, in stock location.

            Radiator core support must be stock.

            Stock steel doors only.  Must be welded shut.

            5 x 60 spoiler or factory spoiler allowed.

            Fuel cell required. Maximum 22 gallon.

            May cut trunk floor for fuel cell.  (No more than 2 inches bigger than cell)

            Must be centered.

        Bottom of fuel cell must be level with or above bottom of  

      frame.                                                     

Frame and Cage

            108" wheelbase minimum.

            Camaros and Unibodies OK. Must tie sub frames together with tubing.

            6” Frame height.

            Frame must be stock from front to rear bumper mounts.

            Frame must match make and model of car.

          No modifying of frame for any reason. (May brace)

            Roll cage may extend thru firewall and trunk.

           Front doors may be hulled for door bars.  (If doors are hulled, 3 door bars must

        extend into door cavity)

      Suspension and Drive train

           Front sway bar mounting must be stock.  Stock type sway bars only.

            Racing springs optional

            Front may be adjusted using shims, spacers, or screw shims.

            Rear may be adjusted using shims, spacers, screw shims, or jack bolts.

            Must remain in stock location   

            Stock type shocks.  No air.

            Leaf spring cars may run lowering blocks and adjustable shackles.

            No modifying of any other suspension parts allowed.

            May remove rear sway bars.

            All suspension parts must remain stock for make and model of car.

            No spacers, blocks, chains, or any other device may be used to alter 

        suspension.           

Tires, Wheels, and Brakes, Rear Ends

            Rear end must be stock for make and model of car.

            Open rear ends only.  No positrac, limited slip, or locked. Gear optional.

            Stock brakes system only. (Front and rear) (Must be in working condition)

            From master cylinder to the wheels

           Track tires only.

           Both front tires may be leaned at top 3 inches maximum. (Measured on the rim)!

           8 inch steel wheels optional. May run up to 2” offset rims.

           Large lug nuts required.

           No pop-off or bleeder valves.

      Engines

            If it doesn't say you can do it, you can't.

            350 Chevy, 351 Ford, 360 Chrys.

            Rotating Assembly

            Must run MSD Soft Touch Rev Control with 5800 RPM Chip Required

        Mounted on dash out of reach of driver.

           Stock or stock replacement crankshafts. Must have 1” inspection plug in oil pan or

        100 lb penalty. Must match stock weight and dimensions. Balancing optional.

           May use stock replacement 5.7 rods. May use aftermarket rod bolts.

         Flat top or dish pistons only. Forged pistons optional.

           Intake

                  Stock cast iron intake (must have been available on a car) no aluminum.

                  No truck, marine, or high rise. Maximum 2” adapter.

            Exhaust

                  Stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. Passenger car manifolds only.

                  No ram horn/center dump.

                  May remove emission hump inside of manifold.

                  Exhaust must exit behind driver.

                  Size of pipe optional.

                  See optional rule at bottom.

            Heads

                  Stock cast iron heads. No Vortex no late model fuel injection.

            Maximum compression 225 pounds with exhaust valve disabled.

                  

                With all plugs removed, and carburetor in full open position.

                 1.94 Intake 1.5 exhaust (maximum) No angle plug heads.  Ford and Mopar

              excluded.

                  4 angle valve job optional. No angle milling.

            Valve train

                  Maximum .426 valve lift cams, hydraulic only.!!!! 

                  445 Ford maximum .445 Chrysler maximum.                                                    

            Stock type and ratio rocker arms only!!!! Polylocks optional.

                  Screw in studs and guide plates optional.

           

            Ignition

                  Stock type ignition only.  May lock advance.

                  HEI must use stock type module.   

           Carburetors

                  Holley 7448 or 80787 350 CFM carburetor only

                  Must fit tools

                  Maximum 2” adapter from intake to carb.

                  No cold air boxes or heat shield of any kind.

                  Must run air filter.  Size and type optional.

            Transmissions & Driveshaft’s

                  Automatic transmissions or standard transmission.

            Minimum diameter is 10.4”.        

                No lightening or excessive milling allowed.

                Stock production transmissions. Must match manufacturer of car. No

            aftermarket.

Super Stock

      All cars subject to general rules.

      Weight

            Must weigh 3150 lbs. minimum.

            Left side 55% maximum.

      Bodies

            Bodies optional, fiberglass, aluminum, steel, etc. No Down Force bodies

         permitted. No carbon fiber parts.

            All bodies must be approved by tech

            Full front windshield.  (Must be lexan)  May run screen.

            Rear windows optional.

            Opera windows optional. No windows in front door openings.

            Must cover all holes in front and rear firewall and floorboard with metal.

            May remove rear firewall and shelf, must replace with metal.

            61/2” x 61” rear spoilers optional.

            All body parts must maintain 5" ground clearance.

            Fuel cell required.

            Maximum 22 gallon. Must maintain 8 inches ground clearance.

Frame and Cage

            108" wheelbase minimum.

            5” frame height.

            Frame must be stock from front to rear bumper mounts.

            May use tubing from center of rear end to back of car.

            May notch for fuel pump clearance.

            Frame may be reinforced and braced.

      Suspension and Drivetrain

            Racing springs optional.  5" minimum coil diameter.

            Spring must mount in stock location with stock geometry.

            Steel body non adjustable shocks only. One shock per wheel.

            Front and rear shock mounting optional.

            Leaf springs cars may use jack bolts or adjustable shackles or rear spring mounts.

            Must mount in stock location on the front. Must be in stock location.

        Lowering blocks optional. Bushings optional.

        May mount solid to rear end housing.

           Lower trailing arms must be Stock type and length only.

        Must mount in stock mount and location on frame.

        May adjust height at rear end mount.

          Upper trailing arms must be Stock type only.

       Must mount in stock location on stock cross member.

       May shorten or lengthen with same type material to adjust pinion angle.

          May run 9” Ford. May run full floating rear ends.

       May either be locked or open, no type of limited slip or lockers.

         Stock type and length lower A-frames.

         Front spindles and ball joints may be reinforced or replaced with heavier unit from

         another passenger car.

        Stock type sway bars only.

            Stock manual or power steering box.

           All tie rods, drag links, idler arms, and pitman arms must be stock type, no

         modifying.

           All frame and body parts must have at least 5" clearance.

Tires, Wheels, and Brakes.

            May run 4 wheel disc brakes

            Track tires only.

            8 inch steel wheels only.Max tread width 67” center to center.

            Max Offset 2”. Minimum ½ studs.

            Large lug nuts required.

          Pop-off or bleeder valves optional.

     Engines

       May run GM Part No.88958604 Crate engine with Holly 650 4150-80541 with

     6300 RPM limiter. No alterations or rebuilds for weight break. Minimum weight  

     3100 lbs.

          Intake

                  Any cast iron or single plane aluminum intake.

                  No porting or polishing

            Exhaust

                  Under chassis or crossover headers No 180 degree headers   

            Heads

                  Any cast iron head that meets the following.

                  Stock valve angle. Maximum 190cc intake port runner.

                 Screw in rocker studs and guide plates optional. Stud girdles optional

                  No polishing. Heads may be ported no more than 3/8" from intake and header   

             Surface. 4 angle valve job optional. No bowl hogging.

                  No blending of valve job to bowls.

            Valvetrain

                  Maximum .500 valve lift cams, solid or hydraulic.!!!!  No tolerance!!!!

                  No roller or mushroom lifters.

                  Roller rockers optional. Ratio optional as long as lift doesn’t exceed .500 at

             valve.

                 Steel pushrods only.

                  Stainless  Steel valves allowed. No titanium valves allowed.

                  2.02 maximum intake valve size and 1.60 maximum exhaust valve size

                  Type of retainers and locks optional.  Must be steel, no aluminum or titanium.

            Blocks

                  #1 Plug no farther back than ball joints.

                  Chevrolet 350, Ford 351, or Mopar 360.

                  Maximum overbore .060 Block may be decked.

          Rotating Assembly

                Stock or aftermarket replacement cranks.48lb minimum. Stock stroke for

            motor.+/-.020

               Must have 1” inspection Plug above oil level or 100 pound penalty.

               No knife edging of counterweights or throw.

               Crankshaft may be deburred.  Cross drilling OK.

                May run any steel 5.7” or 6” rod.

               Flat top pistons only. 

               Balancing optional, rod weights may be adjusted on end pads only.

            Oiling System

                  Oil pumps must mount in stock location. No dry sumps.Oil filters may be        

             relocated must receive and return oil to stock location of block.

            Ignition

                  MSD ignitions optional. No crank trigger ignitions. Type of distributor optional.

            Carburetors

                  Holley model 4412 500CFM carburetors only. Must fit tools.

            Clutch

                  Must run operational clutch. Triple disc OK Minimum diameter 7”

                  Hydraulic throw out bearing optional.

            Transmissions & Driveshaft’s

                  Stock production transmissions.  Must have reverse and 2 forward gears.

                  Steel drive shafts only.  No aluminum.

                  Automatics must run working converter.

            Misc.

                  Must run harmonic balancer.  Type optional.

                  Aluminum bell housing with scatter shield allowed.

GULF COAST MODIFIED

Neck Collars are mandatory.

WEIGHT  2500 Minimum 58% Left side max
No titanium products, parts or components allowed anywhere on race car. No gun-drilled, tubular or hollow bolts or studs anywhere on car.

ENGINES

No aluminum blocks! No Dry Sump Systems

1 Carb only, 2 barrel or 4 barrel. Must qualify and race with the same combination.

Aluminum heads must ADD an Extra 50lbs in front of front cross member.

See weight for size limit.

FRAMES Must maintain 4" ground clearance at all times. Factory production complete full 1960 or newer parallel American passenger car frames only. Frames may be cut in rear only at point not further than 36 inches from center of rear end housing. Frames may not be widened or narrowed. Must be full and complete both sides.   SUSPENSION AND STEERING
Front steering must be unaltered approved OEM and be in stock location, and must be replaceable by stock parts. Tie rod ends and adjustment sleeve may be replaced by a minimum .625-inch rod end and steel tube. Stock passenger car spindles or fabricated spindles must be steel. Bottom A-frames cannot be altered or moved. Front sway bar must be stock appearing. Steering parts must be steel. Steering box must be steel approved OEM and must remain within original bolt pattern for type of frame used. No rack & pinion allowed. Coil over kits with minimum of 4.5" springs on rear only.
No driver adjustments from cockpit except for brakes.
 

BRAKE Must be steel, approved OEM APPEARING calipers, and they cannot be lightened .Steel vented rotors only, no scalloped rotors. Rotors cannot be lightened.

BODIES All body rules are at the discretion of tech official.
Must be full size roof. Body sides must be straight front to back with a maximum length of 120" starting from back of engine, maximum width of 66" and body rake of 6 " must be straight front to rear and flat. Asphalt type nosepiece allowed no wider than frame horns. Engine compartment must remain open. Passenger side of body must be no further forward than rear of engine. Right side A posts must be within 3" of right side of car or 50 lbs. penalty. No interior wings, belly pans, double skinned roofs, fins, wings, vanes, vertical ledges, ramps or any other air directing devises are not allowed. Vehicles with complete windshields will be allowed a maximum 5"x60" rear spoiler with all braces mounted on rear of spoiler. Gurney flaps or curls are allowed but will be included in all measurements. Vehicles with no windshield may run 4"x 60" spoiler @ 45 Degrees. 12" maximum length triangular enclosure at the ‘A’ pillar will be allowed. Hubs optional, no wide five. All cars are required to have side nerf bars mounted even with outside of tires.
Bodies must maintain Minimum 4" ground clearance at all times.                                                                                                      

IGNITION $250.00 Ignition box Claimer Rule.                                                           

FUEL Track Racing Fuel only. No performance-enhancing fuel additives of any kind.

TIRES AND WHEELS Tires and wheels to be announced. Maximum overall width shall not exceed 82" from outside of tire to outside of tire. Tire treating is not permitted. Any tires detected to be treated, treating equipment; treating liquids, etc. will be cause for the driver, crew chief, and car owner to be asked to leave the speedway property immediately. There will be no refunds nor winnings paid for that event to anyone in violation of this paragraph. No wide-five hubs allowed.                                          

MODIFIED RULE ENFORCEMENT The Chief Tech Inspector shall be authorized to make changes from any specifications contained within these rules as a situation may dictate. Furthermore, the Chief Tech Inspector may impose further restrictions in an attempt to maintain fairness. Under no circumstances may the tech inspector alter any safety rule to less than stipulated. ANY VARIANCE OF THESE RULES BY PARTICIPANTS THAT MAY ULTIMATELY LEAD TO REDUCTION IN SAFETY, OR AN INCREASED RISK, TO ANY PARTICIPANT, WHETHER ENFORCED BY THE CHIEF TECH INSPECTOR OR OTHERWISE, SHALL BE THE EXCLUSIVE RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY OF THE PARTY OF PARTIES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE VARIANCE. THE MANAGEMENT OF SOUTH ALABAMA SPEEDWAY, AND THE PROMOTERS SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY VARIANCE FROM THESE RULES AS PROVIDED

 

 

Vintage Cars                     

All cars subject to general rules.      

 

 

Weight              Must weigh 2600 lbs. minimum.              Left side 55% maximum.              

Bodies             Approved Vintage bodies only.            Full front windshield.  (Must be lexan)  May run screen.          Must cover all holes in front and rear firewall and floorboard with metal.             All body parts must maintain 4" ground clearance.            Fuel cell required. Maximum 22 gallon.             Must maintain 8 inches ground clearance. 

Frame and Cage             GM Metric frames only 1978 to 1985.             4" frame height.             Front clip and rear clip must be from Metric frame 1978 to 1985        Front clip and rear clip must be connected with square tubing on the front  where the original frame starts to turn outward and on the rear just in front  of where the lower trailing arms are attached, all front end and rear end frame attachment points must be in stock location. May notch for fuel pump clearance. Roll cage may extend through front and rear firewalls.  Frame may be reinforced and braced. Engine must be centered in frame.       

Suspension and Drive train        Stock metric a-frames, spindles, brakes, trailing arms.         Top trailing arms can be re-drilled to set pinion angle. Stock type sway bar for front can be mounted with aftermarket adjusters. May use aftermarket bushings for control arms and trailing arms. May run drum or disc brakes on rear. May run brake proportioning valve front or rear. Must mount in stock location.    

 
Stock metric rear ends only. May be totally locked or totally open or 9 inch ford. Full floater ok. All steel parts only, hubs, drive plates, axles, spool must be steel. Full or mini spool only No light weight. No gun drilled axles. Both rear end options MUST RUN STOCK gear ratios (metric-308,323,342,373,411 and 456) (Ford-310,325,343,378,411 and 456) only.  

 Racing springs optional.  5" minimum coil diameter. May be adjusted using shims, screw shims, spacers. Jack bolts optional on all rear only.  Spring must mount in stock location with stock geometry.             One shock per wheel.            Shocks must mount in stock location             May put spacers on rear shocks to prevent bottoming.

Tires, Wheels, and Brakes.             Track tires only.   8 inch steel wheels only.   Offset optionalWheel spacers optional.  Large lug nuts required.

Oiling System                   Oil pumps must mount in stock location. No dry sumps.                  Oil filters may be relocated must receive and return oil to stock location             of block.             

Ignition                   Stock type HEI distributors. Example MSD & DUI.           

Carburetors                  Holley model 4412 500CFM carburetors only.                   Must fit tools.             

Clutch                  Stock production steel clutch (disc, pressure plate, and flywheel).                   L88 flywheels optional.                  No lightweight aftermarket flywheels.  (i.e. 10,000 RPM) Minimum weight             of clutch assembly 32 pounds.
